Die Autoren und Autorinnen dieses Bandes befragen in einem internationalen und interdisziplinären Diskurs die gegenwärtige Kirche auf ihre Vitalität hin. Unter dem Leitbegriff der »Vitalität« wird damit eine bisher wenig genutzte hermeneutische und heuristische Kategorie erprobt und an den kirchlichen Ist-Zustand angelegt. Dabei wird die Suche nach der Identität der Kirche, also was die Kirche zur Kirche macht und wie sich das gegenwärtig äußert, inhaltlich auf die Frage nach ihrer Vitalität ausgerichtet und multiperspektivisch untersucht.Der Band dokumentiert ein internationales Symposium, das vom Institut zur Erforschung von Evangelisation und Gemeindeentwicklung (Universität Greifswald) im Jahr 2022 ausgerichtet wurde. Zugleich eröffnet er die Reihe »Mission & Kontext«, welche sich mit Fragen missionaler und kontextueller Kirchen- und Gemeindeentwicklung befasst.Die Beiträge stammen aus dem Bereich der evangelischen Theologie und der Sozialwissenschaften, mitgearbeitet haben u. a. Christfried Böttrich, Michael Domsgen, Tom Greggs, Annette Haußmann, Michael Herbst, Ralph Kunz, Sabrina Müller, Thomas Schlegel, Miroslav Volf, Henning Wrogemann und Miriam Zimmer.[»For We Cannot But Speak ...« Vitality as a Mark of the Sent Church]The contributions to this volume discuss the vitality of the current church in an international and interdisciplinary perspective. Could vitality even be called a 'mark of the church (nota ecclesiae)'? The key concept of 'vitality' provides a hermeneutical and heuristic category that has until recently been rarely applied to the current as-is state of the church. Through this category the search for the identity of the church, i.e. what makes the church the church and how this is currently expressed, is organized in its multiple perspectives and gains a focus as regards content.This volume documents the international conference held by the Research Institute for Evangelism and Church Development (University of Greifswald) in 2022. At the same time it represents the opening of a new series called 'Mission & Context' which will explore questions of missional and contextual church development.Contributions by national and international scholars and researchers from the fields of Protestant Theology and the social sciences, including among others Christfried Böttrich, Michael Domsgen, Tom Greggs, Annette Haußmann, Michael Herbst, Ralph Kunz, Sabrina Müller, Thomas Schlegel, Miroslav Volf, Henning Wrogemann and Miriam Zimmer.
