Für Paulus stellte das Christusgeschehen - Christi Tod und seine Auferstehung - kein isoliertes Ereignis dar, sondern begründet für ihn und die paulinischen Gemeinden ein völlig neues Welt- und Selbstverständnis. Paulus musste, wie jeder religiöse Denker, Antworten auf die Fragen nach dem Ursprung, Wesen und Ziel der Welt entwickeln, kurzum kosmologische Aussagen erarbeiten. In Zentrum der Untersuchung steht das Selbstverständnis der paulinischen Gemeinde, das sich grundlegend in der Abgrenzung zur Welt, zum Kosmos definiert. Wie die Untersuchung der einzelnen kosmologischen Themenfelder (Welt, Schöpfung, kosmische Mächte, Heiliger Geist) zeigt, greift Paulus kreativ kosmologische Vorstellungen aus seinem jüdisch-apokalyptisch und römisch-hellenistischen Kontext auf.[The Church as a Cosmic Entity. A Study of the Self-Conception of the Pauline Church Within Discourses on Ancient Cosmology]For Paul the Christ event - that is the death and resurrection of Christ - was not merely an isolated occurrence. Rather, for him and the Pauline congregation it laid the foundations for a completely new worldview and self-conception. Paul had to find answers to questions concerning the origin, the nature and destination of the cosmos, in other words: Paul had to devise cosmological statements. This study is focussed on the self-conception of the Pauline congregation, which is defined in distinction from the world. By closely examining the distinct cosmological topics (cosmos, creation, cosmic powers, Holy Spirit) this study unfolds how Paul appropriates cosmological conceptions from his Jewish-Apocalyptic and Greco-Roman surrounding context and uses them creatively.

Lennart H. Schirr, Dr. theol., Jahrgang 1987, studierte Evangelische Theologie in Berlin und Halle. Er ist als Vikar in der Evangelischen Kirche Berlin-Brandenburg-schlesische Oberlausitz tätig. 2020 wurde er an der Theologischen Fakultät der Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg mit der vorliegenden Arbeit promoviert.
