Seit einiger Zeit wird der evangelische Pfarrberuf verstärkt diskutiert. Angesichts sinkender Mitgliederzahlen und steigender Erwartungen fragen sich Kirchenleitungen, Gemeindeglieder - und nicht zuletzt Pfarrerinnen und Pfarrer selbst -, was den Kern des Berufes ausmacht und welche Schwerpunkte sie setzen - oder gerade nicht mehr setzen - sollten.
Der Göttinger Praktische Theologe Jan Hermelink legt zu diesem Thema zwölf, zum Teil noch unveröffentlichte Texte aus den letzten fünfzehn Jahren vor. Aus Hermelinks Sicht sind Pfarrerinnen und Pfarrer vor allem mit einer spezifischen Leitungsaufgabe betraut: Sie denken öffentlich über den Glauben nach; sie reflektieren Vielfalt und Einheit des kirchlichen Lebens - und sie bringen Anspruch wie Verheißung des Evangeliums nicht zuletzt als Person zur Darstellung.

The debate on the protestant pastor's profession is increasing currently. In the light of declining membership and rising expectations, church leaders and congregations - and not the least many pastors themselves - are asking what the profession's core might be nowadays. What should be the focus of pastoral work - and what not?
Jan Hermelink, professor for Practical Theology in Göttingen, hereby presents twelve articles on that issue from the last fifteen years; some have not been published before. In Hermelink's view, pastors are entrusted with a specific form of leadership: The protestant minister is pondering on faith in public; he or she reflects the churchs' life in its diversity and its unity; and he or she represents as a person the demands as well as the promises of the Gospel.
