Menschliches Zusammenleben bedarf der Formen und orientiert sich an Vorbildern. Das gilt auch für die Kirche. Sie begreift Jesus Christus als ihr Urbild und ihren Grund, aber auch als Vorbild für kirchliches Leben. Christlich-gemeinschaftliches Leben kann nur im Rekurs auf das Handeln Jesu Christi gelingen.
Holger Werries zeigt, dass schon bei Friedrich Schleiermacher die ekklesiologischen Aussagen aller Disziplinen geleitet sind vom Urbild und Vorbild Jesu Christi. Schleiermachers Ekklesiologie ist die konsequente Fortsetzung seiner Christologie. Als Implikat seiner Christologie orientiert die Ekklesiologie kirchliches Handeln gerade auch dort, wo dieses die Wohlordnung der Gesellschaft im Ganzen im Blick hat.

Human coexistence needs a formal frame and ideals to follow. This also applies to the church. It understands Jesus Christ as its archetype and foundation, but also as the model of ecclesiastic life. Christian communal life can succeed only with recourse to the actions of Jesus Christ.
Holger Werries demonstrates that already in the writings of Friedrich Schleiermacher the ecclesiological messages of all disciplines are guided by the archetype and ideal of Jesus Christ. Schleiermacher s ecclesiology is the consistent continuation of his Christology. As an implication of his Christology, ecclesiology determines the actions of the church and particularly where these actions are concerned with the common weal of society as a whole.
