Die Festschrift bietet 28 Originalbeiträge zum christlich-jüdischen Dialog aus der Hand von international renommierten Bibelwissenschaftlern, Judaisten, Kirchenhistorikern, Kunstgeschichtlern und systematischen Theologen. Dabei wird die wechselvolle Begegnung von Judentum und Christentum durch die Jahrhunderte hindurch mittels der Auslegung zentraler jüdischer und christlicher Quellentexte und eindrücklicher christlicher Bilddokumente nachgezeichnet. Die Bedeutung der jüdischen Exegese und Religionsphilosophie für die christliche Theologie kommt ebenso zu Wort wie die Geschichte des Instituts Kirche und Judentum und seines Vorläufers, des Institutum Judaicum Berolinense. Den Abschluss bildet ein Reigen von Predigten über Texte, die für das christlich-jüdische Verhältnis von grundlegender Bedeutung sind.

The festschriftcontains 28 original contributions to the Christian-Jewish dialogue by internationally renowned Bible scholars, Jewish Studies scholars, church historians, art historians and systematic theologians. Based on the interpretation of central Jewish and Christian sources and impressive Christian images, they trace the changeful encounters of Judaism and Christianity through the centuries. The essay collection addresses the significance of Jewish exegesis and philosophy of religion for Christian theology, as well as aspects of the history of the Institut Kirche und Judentum and its predecessor, the Institutum Judaicum Berolinense. The anthology concludes with a series of sermons on texts that are fundamentally significant for the Christian-Jewish relationship.

Die neue Reihe führt die bisher vom Berliner 'Institut Kirche und Judentum - Zentrum für christlich-jüdische Studien an der Humboldt-Universität'verlegten Reihen 'Studien zu Kirche und Israel', 'Veröffentlichungen aus dem Institut Kirche und Judentum' sowie 'Arbeiten zur neutestamentlichen Theologie und Zeitgeschichte' in einem Organ fort. Dementsprechend werden in der Reihe Beiträge zu den wechselvollen Beziehungen zwischen Judentum und Christentum von der Spätantike bis zur Gegenwart, zur Geschichte und Bedeutung der Bibelauslegung in Judentum und Christentum, zu hermeneutischen Grundlagen, Inhalten, Zielen und Formen des christlich-jüdischen Dialogs sowie zum gegenwärtigen Verhältnis von Kirche und Israel erscheinen.

The new series continues in a single publication the former series Studien zu Kirche und Israel ("Studies on the Church and Israel"), Veröffentlichungen aus dem Institut Kirche und Judentum ("Publications of the Institute for Church and Judaism") and Arbeiten zur neutestamentlichen Theologie und Zeitgeschichte ("Studies in New-Testament Theology and Contemporary History") hitherto published by the Berlin Institut Kirche und Judentum - Zentrum für christlich-jüdische Studien an der Humboldt-Universität ("Institute for Church and Judaism - Center for Christian-Jewish Studies at Humboldt University"). In this new format the series will publish contributions on the changeful relations between Judaism and Christianity from Late Antiquity to the present, on the history and significance of Christian and Jewish interpretations of the Bible, on hermeneutical fundamentals, concepts, goals and formats of the Christian-Jewish dialogue and on the current relations between the church and Israel.

Markus Witte, Dr. theol., Jahrgang 1964, studierte in Frankfurt am Main, Erlangen und Marburg Evangelische Theologie, Judaistik und Semitische Philologie. Nach Promotion (1993) und Habilitation (1997) im Fach Altes Testament absolvierte er ein Vikariat in der Evangelischen Kirche in Hessen und Nassau. Von 2001 bis 2009 war er Professor für Altes Testament an der Johann Wolfgang Goethe-Universität Frankfurt am Main. Seit 2009 ist er Professor für Exegese und Literaturgeschichte des Alten Testaments an der Humboldt-Universität und Leiter des Instituts Kirche und Judentum.
