There is a general trend in surgical specialties to complement or substitute open surgical procedures with less invasive techniques. Most of these techniques originate from urology. This book describes the implementation of new technologies in the spectrum of urological therapies. New developments in shockwave technology and endoscopic devices and their consequences for stone treatment are discussed, as well as the impact of the improvements in new energy sources such as laser and highly intensive focused ultrasound in uro-oncology and BPH treatment. To complete the content of this book, a separate chapter for laparoscopy shows the possibilities and limitations of this newest technique for less invasive surgical interventions.
