Description
What does it mean to teach digital literacy today?
At a time when new technologies seem to appear almost daily, many teachers are left with more questions than answers.
How do we respond to AI? Which digital tools genuinely support learning?
What skills do our learners need, not just for school, but for life?
And what new skills do we, as teachers, need?
Moving beyond tools and quick-fix solutions, Digital Literacy in the Language Classroom explores these Questions and focuses on people: language learners, language teachers, teacher trainers, and the choices they make. Combining theory with classroom practice, we offer a human-centred approach to digital pedagogy helping teachers make informed decisions about when, why, and how technology can support learning. We explore ways to encourage language learners to engage with the digital world in considered, responsible, and meaningful ways, and to develop the critical, ethical and collaborative skills they need to thrive in the ever-changing digital world.
The book is divided into three sections:
Part A A clear guide to digital literacy and related literacies.
Part B Practical principles for making informed decisions about technology in teaching and
learning.
Part C Adaptable classroom activities and learning experiences for a range of ELT contexts.
At its heart, Digital Literacy in the Language Classroom is about agency: helping both teachers
and learners develop the knowledge, confidence and understanding to make thoughtful choices
about technology and help shape sustainable human-centred futures.
