Description
Maffei's History of the East Indies (1588) is the first major global account of Portuguese expansion in East Asia. Based on Jesuit and state sources, it offers a synthesis of the Iberian presence from the Cape of Good Hope to Japan, via Brazil and Africa. This edition makes available for the first time the old Spanish manuscript translation, critically edited and accompanied by an introductory study and indexes.
Giuseppe Marino, Universidad Complutense de Madrid, España.
