This book analyzes Herta Müller's collages as a model of perception and text for "seeing in detail" against the backdrop of the early 20th-century artistic avant-gardes. It takes an approach informed by art, literary, and media studies to examine their poetological, critical linguistic, and subversive potential. It systematically draws out the use of the literary device of collage in both her novels and her frequently overlooked essays.
