Die Antike und ihre Rezeption wurden bisher weitgehend in den Grenzen von Fachdisziplinen erforscht. In der Reihe Transformationen der Antike steht dagegen die interdisziplinäre Kontextualisierung der produktiven Transformationen antiker Wissenschaften und Künste im Vordergrund. Dargestellt wird der langwellige, von der Spätantike bis zur Moderne reichende Prozess der Herausbildung des Wissenschaftssystems der Kunstgattungen und der kulturellen Selbstkonstruktion der europäischen Gesellschaften.
Die Reihe geht hervor aus dem Sonderforschungsbereich "Transformationen der Antike" und dem "August Boeckh-Antikezentrum" an der Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin. Ihre Projekte untersuchen Transformationsprozesse insbesondere auf drei Ebenen: die konstitutiven Funktionen der Antike bei der Ausbildung der europäischen Wissenschaftsgesellschaft und ihrer Disziplinen; die Rolle der Antike bei der Entstehung mittelalterlicher, neuzeitlicher und moderner kultureller Identitäten; sowie die künstlerischen, literarischen, übersetzerischen und medialen Formen von Rezeption und Transformation.

Der vorliegende Band untersucht die Anwendbarkeit des Konzeptes der 'Allelopoiese' in Bezug auf antike Texte und ihre Rezeption in verschiedenen Epochen und Formen. Anhand der Analyse ausgewählter Transformationsbeispiele werden erstmals unterschiedliche Rezeptionskonzepte gegenübergestellt und auf ihre wissenschaftlichen Implikationen überprüft.

Although Antiquity itself has been intensively researched, together with its reception, to date this has largely happened in a compartmentalized fashion. This series presents for the first time an interdisciplinary contextualization of the productive acquisitions and transformations of the arts and sciences of Antiquity in the slow process of the European societies constructing a scientific system and their own cultural identity, a process which started in the Middle Ages and has continued up to the Modern Age.
The series is a product of work in the Collaborative Research Centre "Transformations of Antiquity" and the "August Boeckh Centre of Antiquity" at the Humboldt University of Berlin. Their individual projects examine transformational processes on three levels in particular - the constitutive function of Antiquity in the formation of the European knowledge society, the role of Antiquity in the genesis of modern cultural identities and self-constructions, and the forms of reception in art, literature, translation and media.
