Der einen Berichtszeitraum von drei Jahren umfassende Band enthält 320 Briefe und Beilagen von und an Leibniz. Sie stammen aus gut 30 Korrespondenzen mit so wichtigen Briefpartnern wie Joh. Bernoulli, D. Papin, O. C. Rømer, R. C. Wagner und J. Wallis. Vier weitreichende Entwicklungen prägen die Konversationen dieses Bandes und führen zu neuen Themen sowie zu neuen Korrespondenzen: Die astronomischen, politischen und theologischen Aspekte der protestantischen Kalenderreform 1700 werden mit Astronomen in ganz Europa diskutiert. Für die neugegründete Sozietät der Wissenschaften in Berlin entwirft Leibniz Projekte und kontaktiert potentielle Mitglieder. Vor der Pariser Académie des sciences wird sein Differentialkalkül scharf kritisiert. In England spricht N. Fatio de Duillier öffentlich aus, was auch andere denken: dass Leibniz seinen Kalkül von I. Newton entliehen habe. Zudem findet die Kontroverse mit Papin über die Dynamik ein abruptes Ende und ist nun im Rahmen der Akademieausgabe vollständig ediert.
