Since 1930 the annual communications of the Cairo Division have been providing an international platform for papers on Egyptian archaeology and cultural history. The topics treated cover a time span from the pre-dynastic period through the Christian era and up until the Islamic period. Besides the emphasis on archaeology and the publication of the latest results of excavations by international consortia, topics from art history and cultural history to topical questions and research are discussed. In addition, reports on the current excavations of the Cairo Division are presented regularly, supported by copious pictorial material.

Werner Kaiser gehörte zu den herausragenden Persönlichkeiten der deutschen Ägyptologie, der mit seiner Arbeit am Ägyptischen Museum Westberlins und als Erster Direktor des DAI Kairo eine ganze Generation deutscher und internationaler Wissenschaftler prägte. In der vom DAI Kairo herausgegebene Gedenkschrift zu seinen Ehren sind eine Vielzahl seiner Kollegen und Freunde versammelt, um in kurzen Beiträgen das Leben und Wirken Kaisers zu würdigen. Die enthaltenen Artikel umfassen alle Themenbereiche der ägyptologischen Forschung: von Keramik aus dem Friedhof von Abydos über Arbeitersiedlungen in Dahschur zu Votiven in meroitischen Heiligtümer sind sie so divers wie die Interessen Kaisers selbst. Der vorliegende Band berührt damit nicht nur die Wirkungsfelder Werner Kaisers, sondern bietet auch dem heutigen Fachpublikum einen ausführlichen Einblick in die vergangene und moderne ägyptologische Forschung.
