The Edition Critica Maior of the Septuagint, which was founded in 1908 by scholars in Göttingen, is one of the most important publication projects of German academia in the 20th and 21st centuries. This anniversary edition is the product of events and symposia held to commemorate the one-hundredth anniversary of this publication.

Die Editio critica maior der Septuaginta wurde im Jahre 1908 von Göttinger Gelehrten begründet und gehört zu den bedeutenden Editionsprojekten deutscher Wissenschaft im 20. und 21. Jahrhundert. Aus Tagungs- und Festveranstaltungen anlässlich des hundertjährigen Bestehens ist der vorliegende Jubiläumsband erwachsen. Die hier versammelten Beiträge reichen von der Behandlung grundlegender editionsphilologischer Fragestellungen über die Entfaltung bibelwissenschaftlicher und kirchenhistorischer Perspektiven auf das griechische Alte Testament bis hin zu wissenschaftsgeschichtlichen Einzelstudien zur Gründungs- und Anfangsgeschichte des Göttinger Septuaginta-Unternehmens.

The Neuen Abhandlungen der Akademie der Wissenschaften zu Göttingen are the most important publication produced by the Göttingen Academy and follow a long and splendid tradition. From 1752 to 1842 the "Königliche Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften", as the Academy was then known, produced its Latin Commentarii and Commentationes, in which such reknowned scholars as Haller, Gesner, Blumenbach, Heyne and Gauß presented their work. Since 1842 the Academy has published the Abhandlungen in German, containing the results of work by members of the Academy, staff in the Academy's research projects and invited scholars. The publications are the product of a lecture and ensuing discussion at the Academy. On the whole the Neuen Abhandlungen will, just as its precessor the Abhandlungen , contain contributions from the entire field of the humanities.
