Full Description
Construction activities are essential for economic development but place increasing pressure on natural resources and the environment. The growing global demand for construction materials, particularly sand and gravel, has intensified concerns about the environmental consequences of resource extraction and infrastructure development. Construction processes can generate a range of environmental impacts, including dust and exhaust emissions, habitat disturbance, landscape alteration, and degradation of air and water quality, with implications for both ecosystems and nearby communities.
This book examines the environmental impacts associated with construction activities, with particular emphasis on the extraction and use of sand and gravel. It explores how mining practices can contribute to riverbank erosion, riverbed degradation, encroachment of riparian zones, declines in water quality, and biodiversity loss. The volume also considers the cumulative effects of vegetation clearance and land disturbance on ecological systems and landscape integrity. Bringing together current knowledge on environmental assessment and management, the book highlights the need for sustainable construction practices and effective regulatory frameworks. Particular attention is given to the role of environmental governance and policy instruments in mitigating adverse impacts and promoting responsible resource use within the construction sector.
