Full Description
This Palgrave Handbook offers a detailed, yet expansive history of the Yorùbá people. Using a multidisciplinary approach, it presents original research concerning three major periods of Yorùbá history, including Indigenous societies and institutions, the colonial era, and the postcolonial era. Within each section, topics range from state formation, fashion and festivals and sexuality to empire, politics, social media and education.
While the handbook covers an extensive array of topics, it is by no means an exhaustive account of all aspects of the Yorùbá worldview or history. The piecemeal approach, notwithstanding, the work will cover academic disciplines which include Literature, History, Anthropology, Economics, Language, Sociology, Astronomy, Legal Studies, Politics, Archaeology, Cultural Studies, and finally Religion.
