Full Description

This book refers to Global South, encompassing Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, is disproportionately impacted by climate change due to its geographic location, socio-economic conditions, and limited resources for implementing adaptive strategies. These regions are more vulnerable to extreme weather events, rising sea levels, droughts, and other climate-related hazards, threatening food security, public health, and economic stability. Despite these challenges, the Global South is also a centre of innovation, with communities and governments increasingly seeking innovative and sustainable solutions to mitigate and adapt to climate change.

The primary objective of this edited book is to provide a comprehensive overview of the innovative methods and best practices employed in the Global South to combat climate change. It aims to bridge the gap between academic research and practical implementations, emphasizing the role of indigenous knowledge systems, technological innovations, and policy frameworks in building climate resilience and sustainable development.

The chapters in this volume are organized into six thematic parts. Part 1 sets the context by discussing the challenges and opportunities in the Global South concerning climate change.

Part 2 focuses on innovative solutions for mitigation, ranging from renewable energy to urban resilience. Part 3 covers adaptation strategies, emphasizing agriculture, disaster risk management, sustainable livelihoods, education, and public health. Part 4 presents lessons learned through case studies, best practices, indigenous knowledge, and the role of gender in climate action. Part 5 delves into emerging trends, highlighting technology, circular economy approaches, and the integration of climate change with sustainable development. Part 6 concludes with a synthesis of findings, future research directions, and actionable policy recommendations for creating a climate-resilient future.

This edited book aims to empower and inspire various stakeholders, including policymakers, development practitioners, local communities, and organizations, to create a more resilient and sustainable future for the global south amidst climate change by bridging traditional ecological knowledge with cutting-edge innovations.
