Description
Proteomics is a well-established discipline, within which sample treatment has emerged as a rapidly evolving and strategic sub-area. Despite its importance, only a few books are dedicated specifically to innovative sample treatment protocols in proteomics. This thoroughly updated second edition offers a comprehensive overview of these emerging approaches. It presents the latest developments in the field, with particular emphasis on high-resolution mass spectrometry and on technologies designed to streamline sample preparation and to simplify proteome analysis for the reader. Focusing on nanotechnology and label-free quantification as cutting-edge strategies for sample handling, the volume explores recent technical advances while also providing a clear account of classical sample treatment procedures in proteomics. This combination makes the book a valuable resource for researchers, advanced students and practitioners seeking both foundational knowledge and state-of-the-art methodologies.
Latest trends in sample treatment for metabolomics.- Sample treatment for proteomics in cardiac patients.- Metaproteomics for water biotechnology sample treatment and case studies.- Probing protein structure and function in cells with protein painting.- Shedding light on the surfaceome of pathogenic microorganisms implementation of cell surface shaving and shotgun proteomic approach.- Epitomics.- Proteomic analysis of histone sequence variants and post translationally modified forms.- Proteomics methods in the investigation of protein interactions.- Isolation and preparation of extracellular vesicles.- Peptidomics in the spotlight advanced sample treatment techniques and analytical insights.- Phosphoproteins enrichment approaches for quantitative mass spectrometry analysis.- Sample preparation for proteomics in the oil and gas industry.- Design of a metabolomic study of sepsis associated encephalopathy.
Dr. J. L. Capelo (h index 51, about 10 000 references) is co-head of the BIOSCOPE research group (www.bioscopegroup.org) . His curriculum vitae includes, as of January, 330 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 333 conference communications (oral and poster), 23 research projects, 3 patents, 1 license agreement, 1 authored book and 3 edited books. He has chaired 75 international conferences and currently serves on the organizing or steering committees of 7 others. Dr. Capelo was a member of the advisory board of Talanta from 2006 to 2014 and has been Editor-in-Chief of the online journal JIOMICS (www.JIOMICS.com) since its creation in 2011. He is presently supervising or co-supervising seven doctoral theses and has previously supervised 3 postdoctoral fellows, 10 PhD students, 9 Master s students and 8 final-year projects. His current research focuses on the development of novel methodological approaches in personalised medicine, prescriptomics and biomarker discovery using nanoparticles, as well as on innovative proteomics strategies to unravel bacterial resistance to antibiotics. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry and a member of the Portuguese Chemical Society.
