Description

The conference Climate-Smart Nutri-Sensitive Integrated Farming System for Gender-equitable Sustainable Agriculture, jointly organized by Indian Council of Agricultural Research-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA), Bhubaneswar, India and Pragati International Scientific Research Foundation (PISRF), Meerut, India, brought together researchers, public and private actors, and farmers to address climate-sensitive, gender-inclusive agricultural practices.

The broad objectives of the conference were (1) To foster knowledge exchange and address challenges in various aspects of sustainable agriculture, including climate-smart practices, integrated nutrient management, gender-inclusive agricultural extension, and technological advancements, and (2) To promote collaborative strategies and generate insights to enhance the resilience and gender equity of agricultural systems, with a specific focus on women's empowerment and sustainable agricultural growth.

The contributions center on gender-responsive, climate-smart technologies for sustainable production; renewable energy technology for gender equity and environmental sustainability; sustainable soil and water management and remote sensing in agriculture; nutri-sensitive approaches for gender-equitable sustainable agriculture; gender-inclusive approaches in agricultural research and education; mechanization for management of agricultural systems and horticultural practices for climate-resilient agriculture production.

Dr. Sukanta Kumar Sarangi, presently working as Principal Scientist and Head, Division of Agricultural Technologies for Women, ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA), Bhubaneswar, India has more than 22 years of experience on integrated farming system research. He was involved in many research projects funded by international organizations such as Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research (ACIAR); Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF) and International Rice Research Institute (IRRI). He has been awarded with Fellow of several professional societies including the Indian Society of Agronomy (ISA), Indian Society of Coastal Agricultural Research (ISCAR) and Association of Rice Research Workers (ARRW). Presently he is serving as Editorial Board Member of highly reputed international peer reviewed journal Scientific Reports published by Springer Nature as well as Editors of Indian Journal of Agronomy (Indian Society of Agronomy) and ORYZA (Association of Rice Research Workers).


Dr. Mridula Devi, currently serving as the Director, ICAR-Central Institute for Women in Agriculture (ICAR-CIWA), Bhubaneswar, India having more than 26 years of research experience in ICAR system, made significant contribution in the area of food fortification, processing and value addition to foods for maximizing nutritional and economic benefits. She has been awarded with ICAR Team Research Award for the Biennium 2005-2006 by ICAR, New Delhi; Young Scientist Award-2008 by ICAR-CIPHET, Ludhiana; Young Scientist Award-2008 by Bioved Research Society, Allahabad, U.P.; Fellowship Award-2013 by Bioved Research Society, Allahabad, U.P.; Fellowship Award-2023 by Pragati International Scientific Research Foundation, Meerut (India) and many best paper/presentation awards during various conferences/ seminar/symposia. Most recently, she has been elected for a very prestigious Fellowship of the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences, India from 1st January 2024 (NAAS Fellow - 2024).


Dr Ved Prakash Chaudhary, currently working as Principal Scientist and Head, Agricultural Mechanization Division, ICAR- Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal, India. He has expertise in the field of Agricultural Engineering particularly in crop residue management, climate smart conservation agriculture, energy in agriculture, smart climate farm machinery, machinery for handling and value addition, gender friendly small tools and equipment etc. He has trained more than 2000 farmers in different aspects of improved technology for enhancement of their livelihood security. He has published more than 117 research publications including 35 research papers, 25 popular articles, 4 technical bulletins, 1 book and 3 training manuals, 6 extension folders, 4 book chapters and about 45 presentations in different national and international conferences/seminars.


Dr. Vijay Kumar, currently working as Scientist (Senior Scale) at ICAR- Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal, India. He has developed several agricultural technologies such as real time uniform spraying system for field crops, vertical patternator set up and vertical droplet size and velocity measurement set up, seed drill test rig set up, automated soil sampler and depth control system. His publications include 12 research papers, 03 books/edited books, 07 book chapters, 02 technical reports/bulletins, 10 abstracts/conference proceedings and 10 popular articles. He has received best book award, best paper presentation award and best poster presentation awards.
