Full Description
This book is devoted to the most important and urgent problems that arise during the development of the coasts of the cold seas. The most important result of the work is the creation of an engineering-oriented concept of morpholithodynamics of the shores of the Arctic and subarctic seas and the forecast of coastal development in conditions of rapid natural and anthropogenic changes. The established patterns of development of the coastal zone in the coordinate system of the concept of contact zones of different types of sea, seas and ocean open up new opportunities for improving the theory and methodology of cognition of the natural environment and the relief of the coastal zone as the basis for the life of society and ensuring sustainable development in these regions. In addition to theoretical significance, the established patterns have a pronounced applied aspect—solving infrastructure safety problems, coastal protection and marine logistics, risk assessment and planning of economic activities on the coast, creation of natural and economic accounting systems. Using the example of the Far Eastern region of Russia, the issues of anthropogenic transformation of coastal morpholithosystems are considered. The results of theoretical constructions and modeling of morpholithodynamic processes are used to determine the quantitative parameters of the carbon cycle of biomorpholithosystems of the coastal zone and adjacent marine areas, in conditions of accelerating evolutionary changes and increasing anthropogenic load. This makes it possible to switch to controlled climatic activities for the absorption of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere, accumulation, transformation and long-term burial of autochthonous and allochthonous organic carbon using nature-like technologies on created coastal marine wetlands (carbon farms). The book is addressed to specialists in the development and implementation of projects related to investment, construction, natural and climatic activities, modernization of housing, communal, industrial, transport, social, energy and other infrastructure in coastal areas in high latitudes. It can be useful for students and postgraduates studying in the specialties of geomorphological engineering, hydrotechnical and climatic directions.
