Full Description
This book is an outcome of deliberation between internationally renowned multi-disciplinary scientists, who recognized arid lands are expected to be highly vulnerable to climate change impact, that will significantly affect the productive capacity of arid lands countries for food security. In addition, they also realized that under current circumstances and business as usual with the pace the work is progressing it will be tough to achieve United Nations Sustainable Development Goal number-2 (end hunger by 2030). In recognition to these facts, the editors took the lead and invited renowned scientists to contribute manuscripts to compile the latest information on multidisciplinary, cross-sectoral aspects associated to climate change impacts on food security in general and specific to countries in the arid regions. The information contained in the book is beneficial to multi-stakeholders from the globe (students, farmers, researchers, extension workers, decision and policy makers etc), to setup their strategies to mitigate the climate change impact and adopt science based adaptation practices to improve the capacity of arid lands for food security, a lead to achieve SDG-2. The book includes 20 manuscripts covering cross-sectoral topics and presented in five sections, natural resources management and governance, agriculture and food security, mitigation and adaptation synergy, poultry and aquaculture, and agricultural pests and soil microbial population. Thus, this book is unique scientific resource that provides the latest information on global arid lands with respect to climate change impact and mitigation adaptation synergy for food security.
