L'histoire de la Suède est assez peu connue du public francophone. Son histoire religieuse est, quant à elle, totalement ignorée. L'ouvrage de Patrick-Dominique Linck en offre une rétrospective historico-religieuse, depuis la Réforme luthérienne jusqu'au début du XXe siècle, mettant en valeur différents aspects théologiques, spirituels, littéraires, politiques, économiques et sociaux. Après avoir traité de l'implantation et de la consolidation de la Réforme avec la dynastie Vasa, l'auteur s'intéresse aux différents courants spirituels réformés des XVIe et XVIIe siècles, ainsi qu'à l'arrivée des frères moraves en Suède et au développement du piétisme au XVIIe siècle. Les XIXe et XXe siècles sont marqués par un renouveau des mouvements du Réveil et par l'installation des Églises libres étrangères (méthodistes, baptistes, adventistes, pentecôtistes...), sans compter la fondation d'Églises libres spécifiquement suédoises. L'Église d'État doit alors faire face à ce foisonnement qui se multipliera jusque dans les années 1930.

The history of Sweden is not very well known to other nations, but they are often completely ignorant as regards its religious history. This volume by Patrick-Dominique Linck provides a historico-religious retrospective spanning from the Reformation to the early 20th century, highlighting its different theological, spiritual, literary, political, economic and social aspects. After discussing the implantation and consolidation of Lutheranism within the Vasa dynasty, the author examines the various Protestant spiritual movements of the 16th and 17th centuries, as well as the arrival of the Moravian brethren in Sweden and the development of Pietism in the 17th century.
