Perthshire is home to grand scenery, famous trees and glorious wildlife. Both routes start from Loch Tay, where the nearby Crannog Centre celebrates Iron Age history, crafts and heritage. The walking route passes along forest tracks, ancient paths and disused railway trackbed, whilst cyclists follow cycleways NCN7 and 77 on tarmac.
Enjoy a valley rich in native woodlands, birds and red squirrels. The River Tay is home to salmon and half of the world's freshwater pearl mussels.
Most walkers will need 4-5 days to complete the 50-mile journey to Perth via Dunkeld. Cyclists with suitable bikes can complete the longer route from Loch Tay to Dundee via Perth over 2 to 3 days. Walkers and cyclists can divide the route into manageable sections and stay in welcoming villages.
