Ryoji Ihara worked on the assembly line at one of Toyota’s factories in Aichi prefecture, Japan, for three and a half months and wrote this exposé about the way in which workers are manipulated, not only directly by management, but also through a sophisticated network of control. Through the eyes of blue-collar workers, the author details in his diary, how they feel constantly watched. He then puts his experience within the context of labor studies.
