Full Description
Universities are in a unique position to be agents of change in their communities and to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). This edited collection features an up-to-date collection of in-depth case studies from universities in the MENA region, as well as comparative global cases, which demonstrate the impact of higher education on the SDG agenda.
Addressing an important gap in otherwise limited and fragmented literature on the MENA region, this collection provides a comprehensive overview of the role of universities in achieving the SDGs in the MENA region - showcasing specific initiatives, case studies, policies and research efforts from a wide range of universities in the region. The chapters focus on themes such as the role of universities in achieving the SDGs, how universities integrate sustainability goals into their strategic plans, the challenges that universities face in implementing the SDGs, SDG implementation differences between developed and developing countries, partnerships between universities and other stakeholders in order to achieve the SDGs, and assessment of the methodology and impact of Times Higher Education's Impact Ranking on university strategies to achieve the SDGs.
Highlighting and celebrating examples of good practices and effective strategies from different universities and providing practical recommendations and policy suggestions, this is a roadmap for higher education institutions to engage in community and international development work. It serves as a reference for faculty and students in higher education institutions around the world, as well as practitioners in the field of community engagement.
