Camille centers Marguerite Gautier, a coveted courtesan who falls in love with the young gentleman, Armand Duval. Despite her profession, Armand is eager to leave the city and start a life with Marguerite. Unfortunately, their romance is plagued by public ridicule and Marguerite's deteriorating health. In an effort to protect Armand's name and status, Marguerite makes a daring sacrifice that leaves him yearning for closure and peace.
Camille is arguably Alexandre Dumas' most celebrated work. Shortly after its publication, it was adapted into a stage play, followed by an opera called La Traviata.
