Gary Seamarks takes a look at the Oxford bus scene with a focus on the Oxford Go-Ahead Group and its steps towards all-electric buses. Oxford Bus, the larger of the two Go-Ahead operators, has strong route branding and a buying policy that has seen a broad variety of new vehicles arrive over the years, coupled with the former X90 service to London and a very successful airport service to both Heathrow and Gatwick. In late 2023 over a hundred electric buses from WrightBus began to appear on city services and the open-top tour. Alongside Oxford Bus, Go-Ahead-owned Thames Travel and Carousel have routes into the city using cascaded vehicles from Oxford and other Go-Ahead fleets, which adds to the appeal of buses in this area. This book looks at all aspects of Go-Ahead buses in Oxford and the move to electric vehicles.
