The essays in this volume emphasize our planetary crises, such as climate collapse and possible nuclear war, in the face of which we must envision a way toward a viable human future. They cover a broad swath of our situation—from spirituality, to cosmology, to evolutionary growth, to ethical imperatives, to philosophy of law, to the UN Sustainable Development Goals, to common sense. They draw on philosophical literature from both West and East, in the East highlighting such figures as Mahatma Gandhi, Rabindranath Tagore, Swami Vivekananda, Sri Aurobindo, and several Buddhist thinkers. In the West highlighting such thinkers as Plato, Aristotle, Spinoza, Rousseau, Kant, Hegel, Teilhard de Chardin, Jürgen Habermas, Ken Wilber, and British philosopher, Errol E. Harris. Throughout, they emphasize the "paradigm shift" from Newtonian cosmology to contemporary holistic cosmology. Facing our possible human self-extinction, they focus on the urgent need for uniting humanity under the principle of unity in diversity.
