Full Description
This is the second volume of a series containing the results of archaeological research at Grotta Mora Cavorso, a fascinating cave in the still pristine landscape of the Simbruini Mountains along the Upper Aniene River Valley, central Italy. This series is written by archaeologists for archaeologists as well as for lovers of archaeology, history, and speleology. This volume describes and critically discusses a wide range of multidisciplinary analyses carried out over the last 18 years while integrating them into contemporary archaeological theoretical debate. The second of three volumes covers the Neolithic period of human occupation of the site, revealing the secrets of one of the largest collective burial caves in the Mediterranean region and its complex and multi-layered use as a ritual place. This volume series aims to fill the gap in cave archaeology at both a local and larger geographical scale while demonstrating the key importance of a previously neglected area, thus adding to the overall understanding of the use of caves in Mediterranean Europe.
