This special issue of SAQ enters the debate about the current state of Latin American studies discourse by reforegrounding the place of theory within literary and cultural studies. The issue includes major articulations of the limitations of postcolonial discourse, of recent political theories, and of the Latin American subaltern studies movement as it has manifested itself under the rubric of an investigation of colonial difference.
