Full Description

Through the Greek Septuagint (LXX), the Nag Hammadi Scriptures, the -Kabbalah, Hebrew, and other sources of sacred literature, this work explores how the Greek word for life - Zoe, is portrayed to depict God as feminine. Rethinking Genesis, and the movement towards a feminist orthodoxy, by utilizing various models of interpretation, Zoe is viewed as the life-giving Goddess. Zoe as a relational Goddess and metaphor for God has gender equality ramifications. Metaphors and God language are unpacked as well as the language of misogyny to depict the robust texture of Zoe. Through the use of these language tools and archetypes, Zoe is depicted as the Divine Mother, Healer, Comforter, and Fountain of Life. Her womb as Place of Compassion; Her ability to give birth is symbolized as the image of baptism. Her ability to nurse is symbolized by the image of the Eucharist. She is viewed as Christ the Birthing Mother, Christ the Sacrificial, and Suffering Mother-Zoe. This work depicts the journey to the sacred feminine through Zoe the fecundic metaphor.
