ACT I: How He Speaks
Chapter 1: Introduction to Holy Spirit

Main idea: Understand Holy Spirit as mentor and guide.
Verse: John 14:26

 Chapter 2: Jesus

Main idea: When Jesus is your central focus, you hear His voice over your own.
Verses: Hebrews 1:1-4; Titus 3:5; Romans 8:9-11; Ephesians 3:16-17

 Chapter 3: Bible

Main idea: The Word is the clearest way God speaks into your life. It is God-breathed truth that teaches the character of Christ, helps develop a Spirit-led lifestyle and empowers you to walk in purpose.
Verses: Hebrews 4:12; Ephesians 6:17; 2 Timothy 3:16-17; Psalm 119:105

 Chapter 4: Prayer

Main idea: Powered by Holy Spirit, pray to celebrate, petition, praise, pause and listen in a two-way dialogue with Father God. Prayer shifts our will to His and turns our gaze to the powerful and authoritative name of Jesus.
Verses: Jeremiah 33:3; Exodus 23:21; Romans 8:26-27; Luke 5:16; Psalm 86:11; 143:10

 Chapter 5: Worship

Main idea: Worship shifts the atmosphere of heaven onto earth. Worship is a weapon with which you go to war and turn your attention to the battle Christ has already won. Other times you fall to your knees in humble adoration at the weight of who God is. Worship shifts your focus to the finished work of the cross.
Verses: 1 Samuel 16:14-23; Ephesians 5:18-20; John 4:24; Revelation 4:6-11; Psalm 99:5; 132:7; Matthew 5:35; 2 Corinthians 3:13-18

 Chapter 6: Church

Main idea: A healthy church is built on Christ and built up as Holy Spirit pours out.
Verses: Ephesians 4:15-16; Acts 2:46-47

 Chapter 7: Creation

Main idea: We encounter God through His handcrafted work in creation. Time in creation will lead us to interact with the Creator.
Verses: Psalm 19:1-4

 Chapter 8: People

Main idea: Whether it's prophetic insight, preaching the word or providing wise counsel, God uses leadership at church and other people to speak to you also. If God used a donkey, I'm pretty sure He can use humans, too.
Verses: Numbers 22:28; Proverbs 15:22; 2 Peter 1:21; 1 Corinthians 14:31

 Chapter 9: Circumstance

Main idea: Hearing God's voice through circumstances, dreams at night, signs or "coincidences," needs to be viewed within the context of Scripture and God's character.
Verses: Exodus 3

Chapter 10: How is God Speaking Life to You?

Main idea: Living with intention to honor His Presence—so we don't miss out on direction, counsel and comfort as we pursue holiness—is key in developing spiritually. The first section of the book took you through different examples of how He can speak to you, although there may also be additional ways you hear His voice. In everything, weigh it against Scripture and determine if it aligns with the character of Christ. Bonus points: If you're hearing a life-changing word from God, in addition to discerning it with the Word, talk to trusted and healthy leaders in your church community to gain further wisdom and insight.

ACT II: Hold-Ups and Hang-Ups
Chapter 11: Introduction

Main idea: We all have hold-ups and hang-ups towards listening to the voice of God. This section will discuss the different voices we can lean into: Triune God, Satan or the voice of flawed humans... like ourselves. Let's overcome the obstacles that obstruct viewing the world through a Gospel-centered lens so we can live Spirit-led.
Verses: Exodus 2-4; Proverbs 1:7

 Chapter 12: Yourself

Main idea: Our human heart is flawed and deceitful. The death and resurrection of Christ enables us to walk from depravity into holiness. You aren't the hero of this story, Jesus is. Get over your "selfie."
Verses: Jeremiah 17:1-13; Romans 8:1-8; Psalm 51:10

 Chapter 13: Sin

Main idea: Through the life-giving power of the Spirit, your sinful nature dies when you embrace conviction and walk in repentance.

Verses: Ephesians 6:12; John 8:31-32; 10:10; 14:26-27

 Chapter 16: Isolation

Main idea: Intentional isolation leads to destruction. Healthy community constructs spiritual growth.
Verses: James 5:16; Proverbs 27:17; Acts 2:42; Matthew 18:20
