Full Description
Management of a pneumothorax is a medical emergency. This program will describe the immediate intervention needed to a stabilize patient with a collapsed lung, needle decompression, as well as insertion of a chest tube. Rationale for placement, including a discussion of the pathophysiology associated with pneumo-, tension pneumo-, hemo-, and chylothorax as well as pleural effusion are explained. Equipment needed and nursing assessments before, during, and after the procedure are also explored.
