Full Description
This book describes and analyzes the major success stories in the application of biotechnology to drug development. The author selects several major drug products that exemplify the development of pharmaceuticals through biotechnology over the past 25 years, analyzing their development in a "case-study" format from conception to successful marketing. The case-studies will be selected from among drugs which have resulted in substantial financial success and have had a significant medical impact, with the additional criterion that they exemplify the key developments and changes in the technological, regulatory, medical and business environment that have occurred over the "lifetime" of biotechnology. An important part of each case study will be an attempt to define the key factors which made these drug development efforts successful. "New Pharmaceuticals" provides the reader with a broad view and understanding of the business of drug development through biotechnology, but will not try to be an all-encompassing "history" of the field.
Rather, its focus on a limited number of examples, should lead to a better understanding of the complete process involved in product development and what the key factors in success really are.
