Full Description
New distance destroying communication technologies have generated novel opportunities for an unprecedented range of potentially deviant acts by stimulating imaginations, abilities and desires. Furthermore, globalization has opened up new arenas of social interaction where deviancy can be freshly defined and contested, resulting in deep rooted changes in the links between social control and its subversion. Economic drivers, for example, can generate acquisitive money-making opportunities ranging from the overtly criminal to the greyer realms of the unconventional with various complex stages of potential deviancy in between. Other drivers also generate equally challenging forms of deviancy. Focusing primarily upon deviant and harmful behaviours within the globalized context of the Internet, this book explores the impact of information communications technologies upon global deviance in the information age.
