Full Description
This four-volume collection examines rare, Anglophone gothic texts published in the long nineteenth century. Each volume centers on a particular print format and includes representative texts arranged chronologically. The first volume focuses on novels published by the Minerva Press and other circulating libraries. The second volume features chapbooks and their successor, bluebooks. The third volume includes periodical and magazine fiction; while the final volume turns to gothic drama. Volumes also contain reproductions of associated advertisements, catalogues, and illustrations, which situate gothic texts within a rapidly changing print culture. Accompanied by extensive editorial commentary, this title will be of great interest to students of literature.
