Full Description
While global justice is a hot topic in political philosophy, the place of children and children as a particular group of agents has been largely ignored. This book explores global justice for children from the perspective of the capability approach.
The capability approach represents a fruitful normative basis to explore the issue of global justice for children. The first chapter argues that developing functionings and capabilities are the right currency of global justice for children. The second chapter argues that such a theory of global justice for children should apply three sufficiency-based thresholds as normative principles. Finally, the third chapter develops an ecological model of responsibility for children at the global level. This book raises essential questions regarding the non-ideal conditions in which children's claims can be conceptualised. It also clarifies central categories of childhood such as vulnerability, responsibility, and social status.
Global Justice for Children will be of interest to researchers and students working in social and political philosophy, ethics, philosophy of childhood, and development studies.
