This book was originally published in 1999. Commentators on immigration, cultural diversity and ethnic confict often speak in passing of the 'politics of belonging', but it is rare to find a concerted exploration of this theme. However, the 'politics of belonging' should be taken as a distinct and important approach to the study of migrant and minority politics in contemporary Europe.
