The closing movement of the choral work Jahaaṅ, 'Kŭṭṭanāḍan pŭnjayile' is a fight song of pride for home and community that sets a traditional Malayalam text describing the snake boat races that happen around the Onam festival. Esmail's arrangement of the traditional Keralan folk song is vibrant, playful, and lively, with a strong rhythmic drive aided by the percussion part, which may alternatively be improvised.
