Full Description
A chromatic but bare setting of a poem by Mary Elizabeth Coleridge, a descendant of Samuel Taylor Coleridge. Its sparse texture reflects the eerie, haunting atmosphere created by the evocative imagery of the poetry. This work, like much of Skempton's artistic output is in miniature form, easily programmable along with any of the above works. Commissioned by Cambridge New Music Players and first performed at St George's Church, Bloomsbury Way, London, April 1991
