For courses in Digital Signal Processing. Designed especially for those new to the subject who do not have a background in linear systems or electrical engineering, this text provides an earlier, intuitive presentation. It integrates computer use with DSP theory and practice in all chapters. *Each chapter opens with an introductory application in DSP from one of the following fields: satellite communications, music synthesis, sonar, telephone communications, speech synthesis, seismology, and biomedical engineering. *Unique processing diagrams for use in developing DSP techniques Defines the signals used in the problem; how the signals are obtained and the types of operations that are being performed. Helps students to develop a solution and encourages them to add symbols or notation to the diagrams to describe a solution plan. *Careful explanations and many worked-out examples throughout. *Accompanying engineering data sets on disk Includes: A number of MATLAB files containing functions developed and used in the text; and a number of actual data sets that are referenced in the chapters e.g., one data file contains several seconds of a speech signal, and another data file contains data collected from a seismometer.
