英語話者と日本語話者はどのように英語の音節を認識・生成するのか。音節区分(syllabification)をもとに音節の性質と構造の、普遍性と言語個別性を明らかにする試み(英文書)。
本研究の目的は、英語話者と日本語話者がどのように英語の音節を認識・生成するかを調べることである。この問題を探る有効な方法に、音節区分(syllabification)がある。語をどのように音節に分けるかを調べるのである。本研究はこの方法を用いて、音節の性質と構造の、普遍性と言語個別性を明らかにしようとした。具体的には、母音間に1~3個の子音を持つ2音節からなる語の音節区分において、強勢母音の位置・長さ、母音間子音の種類、母音間子音群の音韻配列制約、形態知識がどのように影響するかを検討した。さらに、課題(oral taskとwritten task)と材料(英単語と無意味語)の種類の影響も調べた。また、本研究は、英単語の音節数を数える訓練(syllable-counting training)を通して、日本人英語学習者の英語音節を認識・生成する能力がどのように変化するかも検討した。(日本語要旨より)
About this book
This book explores how native speakers of English and Japanese recognize and produce English syllables by examining the way they divide English words and nonwords into syllabic units and the way Japanese learners of English count the number of syllables in English words. Through nine psycholinguistic experiments, including a variety of phonological and morphological factors, this volume provides new insights into the nature and structure of syllables and how Japanese speakers improve their ability to deal with English syllables.
