Dotzauer-Etüden gehören seit Generationen zum Standrepertoire im Cellounterricht. Friedrich Dotzauer (1783-1860) war einer der bedeutenden Cellisten und Cellopädagogen im 19. Jh. und wusste, was eine gute Etüde ausmacht: sie soll eine bestimmte technische Aufgabenstellung gezielt behandeln und gleichzeitig nicht eintönig, sondern musikalisch ansprechend sein. Dies gelang dem Cellisten des Leipziger Gewandhauses und der Dresdener Hofkapelle in vorbildlicher Weise. Die 24 Capricen in allen Tonarten op. 35 (1816) sind Dotzauers Meisterwerk und bringen die vielseitigen Klangfarben und Spieltechniken des Cellos wunderbar zur Geltung. Dotzauer wrote his 24 Daily Studies in All Keys in 1839 with both "the virtuoso as well as the advanced amateur of the cello" in mind, and dedicated the collection to the Paris Conservatoire. Each etude deals with a specific technical problem. The corresponding key with scales over 4 or 5 octaves as well as an overview of the most important flageolet tones are preceded. Our new edition takes into account the German and French first edition. With tips for rehearsal and interpretation. Dotzauer études have been part of the standard repertoire in cello lessons for generations. Friedrich Dotzauer (1783-1860) was among the major cellists and cello pedagogues of the 19th century and knew what makes a good étude: it should deal specifically with a certain technical problem and at the same time not be monotonous, but musically appealing. The cellist of the Leipzig Gewandhaus and the Dresden Hofkapelle managed to do that in an exemplary manner. 24 Caprici in tutti tuoni Op. 35 (1816) is Dotzauer's masterpiece, wonderfully showing off the varied tone colours and playing techniques of the violoncello. Demanding études for lessons and performances, with beautiful melodic and harmonic ideas, some with slow expressive introductions, some with artistic arpeggios or contrapuntal polyphony.
