This edited collection offers fresh insights into the image of Ireland and the Irish in Germany, both past and present. It brings together contributions by scholars from diverse academic fields, including history, literature, critical discourse analysis and cultural studies, to provide a trans-disciplinary, multifaceted perspective on aspects of Irish-German relations. The volume focuses, in particular, on perceptions of Ireland and the reception of Irish culture and literature in Germany at various points in time from the late medieval period to the present day. The broad scope of the book reveals important connections in the historical evolution of Ireland s image in Germany, while also exploring more recent developments in the context of current economic and social crises.
