In many areas of life, creativity is considered to be of inestimable value and is linked to qualities such as imagination, ingenuity and innovation. Creative phenomena constitute complex processes in which multiple influences and sequences interact.
In this publication, the idea of oscillation is developed to highlight specific characteristics relevant to creativity. The dynamics of changing, interacting and resonating are understood as oscillating processes that determine and fuel creativity.
The unfolding of creative types of play in musical contexts is of particular interest.
Which dynamics characterize the genesis of new, original ways of dealing with sound in motivational, aesthetic or cultural terms? What possibilities do artistic-pedagogical approaches offer to initiate creative thinking and action? This publication furthers the understanding of a large number of relevant findings and sets impulses for further examination of creative phenomena: both music-specific and interdisciplinary.

Dr. Anna Maria Kalcher researches and teaches at the University Mozarteum Salzburg. She is a professor of Elemental Music and Dance Pedagogy, earned her habilitation in music education and is involved in numerous organizations and professional associations. Her thinking reflects not only her research but her many years of artistic work and teaching practice in various settings. Creativity research, interdisciplinary and trans-disciplinary work as well as music and dance-related learning over the entire lifespan form the focus of her various professional activities.
