Although physical fitness has traditionally been associated with the young through to the middle-aged, it is most critical for those in their senior years. "The Senior Fitness Test" is designed to help professionals motivate older adults and assess the major physiological components of functional capacity so that emerging weaknesses can be detected and treated before causing serious functional limitations. This pack contains a manual, a video and a CD-ROM. The manual explains the theoretical basis and developmental procedures for the Senior Fitness Test. It contains information on administering and scoring the test, providing feedback to test participants about their results and organizing and testing groups of older adults. The appendix has reproducible forms, charts, tables and posters for instructors to use in their programmes. The CD-ROM software aids the user in tracking the test scores of older adults, comparing the scores to national norms and printing useful reports on participants' functional fitness levels. The software offers calculators and several options for reports that can be used in conjunction with the Senior Fitness Test. The video demonstrates how to administer the test properly to both individuals and groups. It should be particularly useful in training volunteers or peer mentors who work with the test administration. It illustrates how to conduct seven individual fitness test items involving common activities such as getting up from a chair, walking, lifting, bending and stretching. The manual, software and video are sold together in this pack but are also available separately.
